Louisiana Museum of Modern Art
Although its founder Knud W.Jensen intended for the museum to be home to predominantly Danish art, he changed course after just a few years and Louisiana became more international. The museum was known for the so called "Sauna principle" of mixing hot with cold artists. The popular or "hot" exhibits attracted guests who would also be introduced to the lesser known "cold" exhibits, they otherwise never would have seen. But why the unusual name "Louisiana"? The founder, Knud Jensen decided to take over the name of the country manor he later turned into a museum. The property had been built in 1855 by Alexander Brun and named after the three women he married- all named Louise.
Today Louisiana is a museum with numerous internationally renowned works of art. The museum cultivates close ties to the arts and culture milieu, enabling it to show extraordinary, internationally respected exhibits, such as a comprehensive presentation of bronzes by Per Kirkeby. The museum is beautifully located close to the water providing it with an unparalleled atmosphere.
