Norrmalm is located to the north of Gamla Stan and is also called "Stockholm City". After the Central station was opened in 1871, numerous shopping areas, office buildings, banks and government buildings were developed in the area.
For those looking for some quiet "time out", Kunsträdgården- the Royal Garden offers a green area, a fountain and some benches where to relax. In the summer it is a popular place to enjoy an ice-cream, in the winter one can ice-skate.
The most beautiful time though at Kunsträdgården is during the cherry blossom, when Japanese flowering cherry trees turn the park into a true highlight.

The Hötorgshallen food hall, the Royal Opera House as well as the Nationalmuseum are only some of Norrmalm's highlights.
